What the legal framework involves

European regulations divide drone operations into three categories, depending on risk:

OpenLow-risk flights, within visual line of sight (VLOS), at a maximum altitude of 120 m, without prior authorisation. Only operator registration, insurance and the pilot’s certificate of competency are required.

SpecificHigher-risk operations, including all flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). Here an operational authorisation from the AACR is needed, issued on the basis of an operations manual and a SORA risk analysis.

CertifiedOperations with a risk equivalent to crewed aviation (carriage of persons, dangerous goods).

May also allow operation with UAS without a C5/C6 class marking, if the PDRA in question allows it

SORA

Full Risk Assessment

Complete, tailored risk assessment methodology, adapted exactly to your operation (ConOps)
Analyses ground risk, air risk, the SAIL level and the operational safety objectives (OSO)
The greatest flexibility: adaptation to location, population, airspace, UAS type, altitude and VLOS/BVLOS
